Becoming a mother is a childhood dream for most girls. For many women conceiving can be a very difficult and heartbreaking process. To help make your experience enjoyable, I suggest priming your body for conception. Before jumping on these supplements as part of your preparation, make sure you follow the additional procedures described in part one of this series.
The quality of your eggs has a dramatic impact on your chances at conception. No matter what your age or how many eggs you have left, I recommend taking these three supplements to prepare for pregnancy.
#1: Royal Jelly
Royal Jelly is considered the leader of the “superfoods” for assisting with fertility. It’s packed with nutrients – 29 amino acids, lipids, sugars, vitamins (A, C, D, E, and a B complex), and minerals like iron and calcium. Along with nutrients, it contains acetylcholine (a compound needed to transmit nerve messages from cell to cell).
Cool facts:
- Bee larva consume royal jelly as their only food source for the first three days of their life. The Queen Bee is the only bee who consumes royal jelly as her only food source for her entire life.
- It is proposed that this exclusive feeding plays a crucial role in the full development of her ovaries. The ovaries are where millions of eggs reside. In one season the queen bee lays approximately 250,000 eggs, sometimes 2,000 eggs a day! Remember, she only consumes royal jelly!
- In 5 days, the Queen Bee matures and weighs double that of a worker bee. She outlives those worker bees by about 5 years too!
Recommended generalized dosage of Royal Jelly by “Now:” 1-2 softgels per day
#2: Bee Propolis
A study done in 2003 published in Fertility and Sterility (2003;80:S32) showed positive outcomes for women with endometriosis who struggled with conception. In fact, 60% of women who took 500mg of bee propolis twice a day for 9 months become pregnant as opposed to 20% in the placebo group. So, does bee propolis help with conception? The research says it does.
Other circumstances this powerful mixture can help with:
- Autoimmune related fertility issues like recurrent miscarriage due to the mother’s body attacking the fetus
- Antisperm antibody (a common cause of infertility) – the woman’s immune system attacks sperm
Recommended generalized dosage of “Dr. Ohhira’s Propolis Plus:” 3 capsules, 3 times a day with water and food (best taken at breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
#3: Powerful Antioxidants
Antioxidants protect the egg and sperm from free radical damage. Free radicals float around in our body causing damage. Antioxidants bind to them, signaling to the brain that they can now be removed. In my opinion, everyone should be on a high-quality antioxidant supplement because we live in the 21st century. It is impossible to escape the damage caused by free radicals. But if you’re planning a pregnancy in the near future, you need the power of antioxidants. Lucky for you, there is one supplement that contains both bee propolis and the powerful antioxidants your body needs. Take the same dosage as described for bee propolis.
Supporting Pregnancy Naturally with a Goal to Avoid Miscarriage
If you have experienced the heartache of a miscarriage, I suggest you take the herb discussed below and in part one of our series. May I caution you though, taking herbs during pregnancy needs to be done under the supervision of a practitioner who is experienced with pregnancy and consuming herbs as remedies.
Cramp Bark
Used to relax smooth muscle which is what your uterus is lined with. We want to avoid it contracting early on in pregnancy. Each herb can help prevent uterine spasm, bleeding, and nervous tension early on in pregnancy (as long as the cervix has not dilated).
Cramp Bark Extra by “Vitanica” has a large general dosage range. For safety measures, 3 capsules 1 time daily would be my recommendation.
How long should you take cramp bark? If you suffered a miscarriage at 8 weeks, then consume it during your next pregnancy until you have reached the 10 week mark. If you would like personal recommendations, I would love to be a part of your healthcare team and provide these. Schedule a free 10 minute phone consultation on our website dhcofutah.com.
Quality of Supplements, Herbs, or Other Remedies
Did you know that supplements, herbs, and other alternative remedies are not regulated?! Essential oils are not even regulated! Companies that produce these alternative remedies can place whatever filler or artificial ingredient they desire in their products and they don’t have to disclose it to you! From my experience, the quality of the supplement source is absolutely vital to seeing the best results. Unlike products you might find at the grocery store or GNC, all products I recommend are put through a rigorous quality check process and exceed FDA standards. Only physicians can dispense these supplements too, so you can be assured you’re receiving the best in quality and value.
